Overview
The Lanceleaf Grapefern (Botrychium lanceolatum subsp. lanceolatum) is a hardy perennial growing to a height of 25cm. It has a creeping rhizome, with long and thin, narrow, bright green fronds divided into small, pointed leaflets. Its small yellowish fruits are borne on long spikes sitting atop lustrous, leafy stalks. This delicate fern is native to moist deciduous forests of North America and is often found growing in peaty soils. It is an attractive ornamental plant due to its lacy foliage, and is best suited for growing in partial shade.
