giant Solomon's seal
Polygonatum biflorum var. commutatum
Overview
Giant Solomon's seal (Polygonatum biflorum var. commutatum) is a hardy, easily grown perennial plant. The leaves are large, and they arch gracefully over the tips of the stems. In late spring into summer, white, bell-shaped flowers dangle from the tips of the stems. The flowers are followed by decorative blue berries that gradually turn dark purple at the end of the summer. Given plenty of sunny space, these plants can reach up to 6 feet in height and make a great, low maintenance statement in a garden or landscape.
