Eastern redbud should be watered deeply once a week in the spring and summer months. Water until the top 2 to 3 inches of the soil around the root zone is moist, but not soggy or waterlogged. During periods of drought or scorching temperatures, water may need to be provided more often. In the fall and winter months, water should be reduced to once every 2 weeks, so that the root zone is slightly moist but not wet. If the weather is particularly cold, you may need to take a break from watering during the winter months.

Eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis 'Silver Cloud') is an attractive flowering tree that does best in full sun to partial shade. It requires 4-6 hours of direct sunlight a day for optimal growth. Placement in a spot that will receive filtered sun such as the west on morning sun and the east for afternoon sun is ideal. It will also tolerate some dappled light during the day. Planting in an area where none of these conditions is available may adversely affect the plant’s growth and flowering.

Eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis 'Silver Cloud') should be pruned in late winter or early spring before growth begins. Pruning should be done to remove dead or damaged branches, to shape the growth habit of the tree, and to open up the tree’s canopy for better air circulation. Generally, the tree should not be pruned more than 10-20 percent of its total growth. Pruning too much of the tree can reduce flowering, growth, and cause stress to the tree.
