Pineapple lily (Eucomis 'Dark Star') prefers to be kept in a consistently moist soil but not soggy. During the growing season, it should be watered at least weekly, and more often in extreme heat or drought. If the plant's soil becomes dry, give it a good deep watering until water drips from the bottom of the pot. In the winter months, wait until the soil feels dry before watering again. It is best to water in the morning to prevent fungal diseases. To prevent water loss due to evaporation, use a thick layer of mulch surrounding the plant's base.

Pineapple lily (Eucomis 'Dark Star') prefers full sun for optimal growth. It can also do well with some partial shade during the hottest portions of the day. For best results, the plant should receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Morning sun is best, since it helps the flowers bloom earlier in the day. However, the plant can suffer from too much direct afternoon sun or intense heat. During the hottest times of year, it is best to provide some shading.

If the foliage is healthy and vigorous you may only need to lightly tip prune individual stems, removing just a few inches to encourage bushiness.
